With a solar battery installed, you can use your stored energy during peak times, which means you avoid high electricity rates, cutting your energy bills even further.
Be confident you’ll always have electricity
Storing power in your solar battery means you can use it even when there’s a grid blackout. You’ll be able to keep the lights on and your appliances running.
Optimise the efficiency of your solar system
Rather than exporting any unused electricity you generate back into the grid, you can keep it and use it yourself, making more efficient use of your system.
Reduce your emissions even further
Create a user-friendly experience with intuitive layouts and editable components.
Gain complete energy independence
By combining a battery with your solar system, you’re able to use your own power any time you need it––It is possible to eliminate the need for grid power.

FAQ

What is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?

It's a $2.3 billion federal initiative launched on 1 July 2025, offering households and small businesses around 30% off the upfront cost of installing small-scale solar battery systems—typically via approved retailers or installers.

How much can I save?

The discount is based on the battery's usable capacity (up to 50 kWh), translating to approximately $330–$370 per kWh. A typical 10–11.5 kWh battery can qualify for a rebate of around $3,700–$4,000.

Do I need to have solar panels?

Yes—batteries must be connected to new or existing rooftop solar PV. You cannot qualify under the program if you're installing a battery alone without solar.

Which batteries are eligible under the program?

Only batteries that meet the program's safety and performance standards are approved. Popular options include the Tesla Powerwall 3 and Sungrow SBR series, along with other CEC-accredited systems installed by approved providers.

How do I apply for the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?

You don't need to apply directly yourself. The discount is applied at the point of sale by your approved installer, who manages the paperwork and rebate claim on your behalf—making the process stress-free and straightforward.

How long do solar batteries last?

A good, high-quality solar battery will last between 10 and 15 years, depending on your usage. Most battery companies provide a 10-year warranty, or a set number of charge cycles.
