TTEC Supports the Australian Automotive Association (AAA)

TTEC would like to extend its congratulations to the Australian Automotive Association (AAA), a peak automotive body, representing companies such as RACQ and NRMA. It has publicly stated that it would like to help drivers reduce their carbon emissions, therefore backing a carbon trading scheme. For more information, please see the article below.

Peak motoring body the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) says it will help motorists cut their greenhouse gas emissions, giving its backing to a carbon trading scheme.

Association executive director Mike Harris said today’s commitment to “assist and encourage motorists to reduce and offset their greenhouse gas emissions” was the first step in a series of policies to be announced in 2008.

“The climate change challenge requires all sectors of the community to play their part in reducing emissions,” Mr Harris said in a statement.

The AAA represents state-based automobile groups such as the NRMA in NSW and the RACQ in Queensland.

Private vehicle emissions make up 8 per cent of the dangerous gases emitted annually which contribute to global warming.

Mr Harris said some reduction in emissions could be quickly found through automobile associations looking at the services they offer members and finding savings there.

“AAA and the clubs support the introduction of a carbon trading scheme, as flagged by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd,” the statement said.

“The AAA approach will see motorists reducing their vehicle emissions through a market-based carbon trading scheme, rather than a government-imposed tax regime.”
